This is a huge issue.
By the end of this decade, it's likely that everyone will know someone living with Alzheimer's Disease. It is up to each of us to make a difference in the lives of our family, friends, and those we'll never meet but need our support. I am determined to make a difference. By participating in the 2008 Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk®, I have committed to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer research, as well as for care and support for people already affected by the disease, like my Mom, some of my friends parents, and the wonderful people I've gotten to know who live gracefully everyday with this horrible disease.
Currently more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's. Unless we find a way to change the course of the disease, 16 million Americans will have Alzheimer’s by 2050. To put that in perspective, it will be almost equivalent to the population of the entire state of Florida.
I know you want to do your part to fight this fatal disease. Memory Walk funds help the Alzheimer's Association advance important research into better treatments and a possible cure for Alzheimer’s. And for the millions already affected by the disease, the Association offers care, education, support and resources in communities nationwide.
